Aaron and Tommy enjoyed the Zoo 5km last year so seven brave souls lined up this year in the zoo car park. It was the third event in our race series so points were at stake and Colin sweet talked the organisers into a last-minute place.
As expected, the course was… undulating. But what goes up must come down and this part was glorious in the sunshine. The animals came out to watch the spectacle of packs of runners puffing their way up and down the hills. It was quite something watching the giraffes, a cheetah and couple of elephants looking bemused while I shuffled past.
Liz was the first BRCer bounding home with Colin hot on her heels although the course became a bit confusing so they may or may not have completed the full 5km. Jill, Johnny, Tommy, Donna and Rowena followed. Obviously, the club chair was just being polite and making sure everyone got round safely….
After the race we were all allowed to look around the zoo although the hills to the new lion enclosure were a bit off-putting. Overall, a race with a difference and one of the hardest 5km around, I would recommend if you’re looking to get up to some monkey business on a Sunday morning.
