The Giant Trail Race, hosted by our neighbours and friends at Dub Runners, is a relatively new race which was interrupted shortly into its lifespan by Covid. The event has very quickly caught the imagination and is a big hit with BRC.
There were 14 BRC runners taking part last Friday and a large number out on the course supporting our participants. Young Conor Robinson was our youngest cheerleader and on this occasion his doting Grandmother was also a supporter, not running due to injury. That opened up a chance for some jockeying on the Race Series leaderboard. In truth though form guide can go out the window for this race as runners react in different ways to the hilly route which this year differed slightly due to a fallen tree on the intended route. Some of our runners were also heard to observe that their summer holiday food and drink intake was impacting their form. Well, if you can’t be a bit indulgent on holiday, when can you be? Just don’t expect to power up Minnowburn Hill in a PB time!!
There were some great times recorded once again. Jill again claimed top spot on the age grading table, and the reigning Race Series champion claimed the 50 points. Jill was also the winner of her overall age grade and picked up a nice prize on the night. Callum was next in a super time of 38.46 which brought him home in 7th place overall and he got the 49 points. Ciaran and Brendan were next with 48 and 47 points. The full table of results from the night along with the overall standings can be found on our BRC Race Series Results page which shows the ladies on top with Jill, Donna and Liz in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
It was back to the Dub pavilion after the race for the now traditional generous post race spread of treats, buns sandwiches and more.
Our Race Series moves swiftly from south to east Belfast with the Connswater 5 mile race on Friday 11th August. Last year it was a scorcher, what will 2023 bring?? See you there folks!
